28 RCTs · 1,745 patients
A systematic review published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found high-energy shockwave therapy better than placebo for both pain and function in chronic calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, and better than low-energy protocols at reducing calcific deposits. No serious adverse events occurred in any of the trials reviewed.
